we'll call them romeo and juliet...

...unfortunately, they weren't able to make their own fatal mistakes - three Taliban mullahs made that decision for them.

Very sad. Right now on CNN they're reporting about an 8yr old girl in Saudi Arabia who was forced to marry a 47 yr old man. The girl is reportedly living with her mom and doesn't even know she's married. She's been denied a divorce in the courts. The Christian culture in the US does make for some annoying laws at times. Looking around the world though, it could be much worse.

I agree that it could always be worse, but I hope people don't ever use that as an excuse for not trying to make our system better.

I'm not sure the best way to go about changing ideas around the world, but I get the feeling that changing ideas here at home is a good first step.

Still, it does make me very thankful that I live in a country where, for the most part, we enjoy free speech, and our laws are not always dictated by religious dogma. And it reminds me that I need to work to keep these freedoms, by voting, by doing public outreach, and by listening and trying to work with people I disagree with.

I agree with everything you said. We should do what we can to make a positive impact on our world. I like the quote from Ghandi, "Be the change you wish to see in the world."
