This is a test

This is only a test (to see how posing from email on my phone works). My world is still a little upside down, but things are falling into place.

Bear with me

My days seem to be continually filled, preventing me from sitting down and blogging. This last weekend we attended the annual Miller Symposium. The science presented there was pretty phenomenal, and spanned from Astronomy to Molecular Biology. I didn't tweet any of it, because it was made clear that everything at the retreat was "off the record".  Last Friday I also attended my first lab meeting in my new lab (Nielsen lab, here at UC Berkeley). I was quite impressed with the quality of the presentation from a first year graduate student. I am certain I was much more bumbling and unsure of myself during my first year.

Perhaps the most important news of late is that we finally found childcare for baby girl! We had originally been interviewing nannies, but after our first one backed out, we just weren't able to find one that fit. We did, however, find a very small, in-home daycare. They only take one baby at a time, and at most, five toddlers. The owner, Gloria, seems wonderful. She lit up the room when I first met her. I was most impressed, however, when one set of parents came to drop off their toddler and the little girl ran up through the doorway, shouting "Gloria!!" and gave the woman a big hug. So, although I can't really bear the thought of being away from my baby for a full day, I'm reassured that we've found a warm, loving environment for her.

In other news, I've been trying to think of a way to kick start my blogging, and my science again. It's so easy to get wrapped up in everyday life - baby, doggies, settling in, grocery shopping, and so on. Consequently, I've decided to try and pick back up on my Accessible Research posts. My goal is to post a new science-related article every week. I'd like to give an exact day, but I can't guarantee it. Let's say... Tuesday-ish. Let's see if I can get it done tomorrow!
