Each week is a different mix. mathbionerdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17525536407206138695noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5255808252082956251.post-63825511470485010682015-06-09T08:35:19.891-07:002015-06-09T08:35:19.891-07:00I like the idea of talking to program officers. You are still the best scientist in the lab and your ability to generate new data is critical to your success.

Mark PMark Phttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14462250693712068754noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5255808252082956251.post-35721757209556082302015-06-09T03:25:43.798-07:002015-06-09T03:25:43.798-07:00Figshare has the benefit of being readily citable,...Figshare has the benefit of being readily citable, which is I think why Ethan puts stuff there. I was going to put them on GitHub, but looks like most people are using FigShare. I know they aren't successes, but I feel like they're not total failures, because of the value of solidifying ideas, and (hopefully) making progress on the research to get them submitted. mathbionerdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17525536407206138695noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5255808252082956251.post-61864161369549140702015-06-08T11:21:36.224-07:002015-06-08T11:21:36.224-07:00Nice post. I'm also 1 year in to my TT position in a SOM and feel the same way regarding pressures to apply, although I've gotten mixed advice on that from senior people (some telling me to apply to everything and others saying don't apply until your lab is up and running). I took the former advice and did a lot of writing/submitting this year:

Rita Allen
Searle Scholar
Alzheimer's Association YFA
DARPA YFA
DP2 @ NIH
Collaborator on an R21 and R01

Ultimately I'll have many more failures than successes, but a couple of these have come through and I'm feeling a lot more secure heading into year 2.
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
